The Polska Kasa Opieki S.A bank was fund by the Treasury Minister in march 1929. In 2004 the bank was celebrating its 75 birthday. It was also the 75th year of European bison restitution in the Puszcza Białowieska. Asa sole sponsor of bisons living in their natural environment the bank has been honored with the Protector of the Białowieskie Bisons title. “Zubr Zubrom” is a program with which Pekao financially supports the largest in the world bison heard, 350 bisons, in Puszcza Białowieska.
In the autumn of 2004 after 6 years from debut on the Warsaw Stock Exchange Market the bank gained the title of the best exchange company in 15 years. Among the winners of the Gazeta Prawna competition named “The best in years 1989-2004” were people and institutions that had the strongest impact on the Polish economy during the transformation period. “The Banker” magazine has given Pekao the award of “Bank of The Year 2004” for its high financial productivity level, good attitude toward the customer, abiding high standards and rules of social business responsibility. Award given by “The Banker” are the most prestige banking award, recognized as an informal “Nobel” in banking.
On the 29th of November 2007 Bank Pekao SA has been registered in court. The New Bank Pekao SA has become a leader on the market, as the biggest bank in Poland in relation to assets, loans, deposits and investment products. Currently it is the biggest bank in Middle Europe in relation to capitalization. In year 2007 the UniCredit Group has been awarded the Best Bank in the Western Europe. British financial magazine “Euromoney” has given the UCI group this title as recognition for its actions and achievements in year 2007. UCI has been also awarded with the title of the best bank in individual countries: Italy, Austria, Bulgary, Poland. Furthermore the group has been awarded with the titles of “Best support for investors in the Middle-East Europe region”, “Best investment bank in Bulgary” and “Best capital in Poland”.
